About this book

In iSteady and Strong People Skills for Principalsi, Russ Thompson describes his experiences as the successful principal of three urban high schools. The challenges he faced ranged from gang activity and racial conflicts, to low expectations and ineffective teaching. Thompson takes you behind the scenes to examine the strategies he used to solve problems and make improvements. I'm a retired educator who grew up in Lynwood, California and graduated from Whitworth University in 1979. I served as a reading teacher and high school principal in high-poverty areas of Los Angeles. Much of my work was with students who struggled in school because of low literacy levels. My goal is to write books that will help students improve their reading skills, believe in themselves, and increase their success in school. I have a doctorate in education from UCLA. My wife and I have four grown children and live in Long Beach, California.
