This collection of student essays explores the rich cultural connotations of animals too frequently overlooked in studies of Renaissance literature. Informed by texts that would have been familiar to any Renaissance reader, such as Aesop’s Fables and the Medieval Bestiary, the essays focus on animals included in depictions of Eden in John Milton’s Paradise Lost and reconsider their role in creating meaning.
