Robert Greenler is Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he has been a faculty member since 1962. He has been involved in the international scientific community, serving in various offices with the Optical Society of America, the American Institute of Physics, and the Council of Scientific Society Presidents. He is an organizer and former director of The Science Bag, a series of public science programs at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee-a series that started in 1973 and is still continuing in 2020. (To view video programs made from this series, search Google for “Science Bag videos UW Milwaukee”). He is the author of other books: “Rainbows, Halos, and Glories”, “Chasing the Rainbow”, and “Outside My Window: A Look at an Urban Nature Preserve”. Greenler’s scientific credentials are in physics, but he also has a lifelong interest in the natural world of plants and animals. A recurring point of view in much of his writing and public education programs is the search for the story behind the immediate visual impression-an attempt to see with the mind as well as the eye.
